Current Projects
Currently, Crafting Change is managing social projects in the low-income communities of Mare, Nova Iquacu and Mesquita.

In Mare Crafting Change, partnered with the cooperative COOTRABOM and the non-profit organization ITCP, is constructing a daycare and family planning facility. The initial role of Crafting Change is to provide funding for construction materials. In the future Crafting Change will supply educational materials and resources. The objective of this project is to provide children with a safe environment to learn and play while their parents are working. The facility will also be used as a resource center for young men and women in the community to learn about sexuality and family planning.

In Nova Iquacu, Crafting Change is partnered with the cooperative Trama e Raiz on an after-school program for children. The role of Crafting Change is to supply the program with educational materials and resources. Approximately 20 children, ages 3 to 8, will have enough supplies to learn and create for an entire year. The objective of this project is to provide an opportunity for young children in the community to blossom their imagination and creativity in a safe environment. Public schools in low-income communities of Rio de Janeiro lack the budget or resources to provide students with sufficient materials or guidance to spark their creativity. Both Crafting Change and Trama e Raiz believe in the importance of art education for the social and emotional development of an individual.

In Mesquita Crafting Change is partnered with artisans and a local professor to provide after-school extra help and educational support to students in the community. The role of Crafting Change is to provide all educational supplies such as notebooks, pencils, blackboards, chalk, rulers etc. The program is held daily and offered to approximately 75 children and young adults in Mesquita. Often in Rio de Janeiro, public schools are only open for half days with inadequate resources for the students. Crafting Change considers education a high priority and will continue to support educational programs catered to students and young adults.
