Fighting WIth Hope LogoTransparent-4091383.png

"Bringing true hope to those facing cancer" greets you on their home page. Fighting With Hope sends practical and encouraging gifts to those fighting cancer so they can be filled with hope in dark times. Fighting With Hope is a 501c3 nonprofit started by Emily and Brady King. Emily was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2019 at the age of 27. She is still fighting today. This organization is the embodiment of fighting with hope, providing boxes of hope for people going through chemotherapy.

 project must-knows

We will be crafting soft, cuddly knit and crochet blankets that they will place in each Box of Hope.

Before beginning this project, please read our Project Overview Sheet here.

We are helping this partner charity by providing soft and snuggly knit and crochet blankets for patients receiving treatment for cancer. The blankets are intended to be used during chemotherapy to offer warmth and soothing comfort. This organization serves all people regardless of age or gender. However, they have requested a standardized size and color palette so they don’t have to sort through blankets to figure out which one goes in which box and to ensure that they have a blanket ready for whomever is requesting help. They request lap blankets in a neutral, soothing color palette such as creams and oatmeals including variegated/ombre yarns in these tones.

  • They have requested knit or crochet only.

  • We are looking for 1 size

    • Approximately 40”x40”

  • As these blankets are for patients to use during their cancer treatments, please be thoughtful in your choice of yarns and avoid “craft” yarns that may be scratchy.

  • These blankets will need to be washed often, so ensure your yarn is washable.

  • Several ideal patterns are below that match the aesthetics they are looking for if done in the neutral color palette desired.

  • Any yarn from your stash that is less than 5 years old that is either DK or worsted weight that is washable would be great. We are looking for something soft and comfortable. Anything you would make a chemo cap out of would be ideal. You can use our recommended yarn list to see what we have on our list for chemo caps if you need suggestions.
