About
BloomLogoNoTagline.jpg

Bloom is a private nonprofit foster care agency in Georgia. We will be helping to provide items for The Bloom Closet which serves as a “boutique” that children and youth get to go “shopping” in when placed in foster care. Bloom is an amazing organization that provides training to foster families and provides everything they need to be successful and provide a long term stable home to the children coming in to their care.

4,114 children received items from The Bloom Closet in 2020. 95% of foster children report feeling an improvement in self-worth after receiving clothing and supplies from Bloom Closet, and that is a number that Crafting Change wants to be a part of! We are helping Bloom with handmade items for The Bloom Closet and items that they will distribute directly to foster families at intake when needed.

 project must-knows

1. MASKS: Any pattern accepted as long as it meets the following guidelines:
  • Ages 10-17
  • 2 layer with filter pocket or 3 layer (middle layer cotton or polypropylene)
  • Nose wire for children ages 9 and up
  • Adjustable ear loops preferred but not required.

2. Blankets:  These are primarily for tweens and teens and they have requested two types of blankets. These blankets need to be approximately 48-54 x 60" in size no matter what pattern you choose to send them. They prefer handmade blankets in the form of "rag quilt" style.  This location is also accepting no-sew fleece blankets We have put together a great informational sheet with ideas on different ways to do these. These are incredibly bulky to ship, so we are having our local craftivists in GA focus on these since they are super easy, really bulky and take no time at all to put together. However, if you don't mind shipping these super easy projects, go for it!

If you are new to making a rag quilt please read the resources that our Advisory Board Member  Kathy Lawrence (kathyl@craftingchange.org) has put together for you. They make it simple and easy; she has done the quilt math for you and given you great suggestions on fabric combinations that work.
