Must Knows

We are working with nurse Cheryl Jordan, RN an ICU nurse at this facility. Cheryl will collect the caps and distribute them to the nurses in the Covid Unit and the ICU to those dealing with Covid-19 patients. Currently their need is for 250 Scrub Caps with approximately 25% of them being of the long hair style and 75% being of the unisex style.

Since you don't know who the end user of your caps will be, it is ideal if both your cap and your pattern is unisex. Our favorite unisex pattern is the Unisex Scrub Cap Pattern by Tiffany Herbert. This tried and tested pattern has been used by nurses and doctors throughout the pandemic and received rave reviews. It fits just about any head, any gender and holds large quantities of hair from short to medium/long. So your caps will truly be unisex, we encourage you to use gender neutral fabrics as much as possible. PeaceHealth has nurses in all genders and ones who like choices in their fabric selections. From past experience dealing with nurses during the pandemic, SUPERHERO and MEDICAL THEMED fabric is very popular.

They have also requested many long hair caps. We have provided our favorite patterns for these caps. However, any long hair pattern is acceptable as long as it is a pattern that allows a nurse to gather all their hair up into it.

Tally in advance is OKAY...Please only tally the amount you can sew in ONE WEEK! This is an urgent request. Please allow others to join in and help on this request with you! You don't have to do this alone, we all want to help! Sew a few then check back and see if help is still needed!

Sewing Techniques -

Patterns- Please ensure your pattern has printed the correct size. Many .pdf patterns have a square you can check to see if it is 1 inch in size after you have printed it. Check it.

Please ensure you make your caps using proper sewing techniques: all exposed  seams must be properly finished with either a serger, a zigzag or a finishing seam of some sort. (No raw, exposed edges of fabric of any kind).

Please do not add any embellishments like bric-a-brac to the top of these caps, scrub caps are a medical device, not a costume. No embellishments of any kind should be added.

Please use only 100% Cotton Woven Quilters Weight fabric. It is too warm to use flannel. Occasionally we have had requests for flannel in cool climate locations like Michigan. This is not one of those locations.

If in doubt, ASK. Come to a Zoom Room and ask for advice or help or email Tiffany at tiffany@craftingchange.org for help
