Picking Up The Pieces

Picking Up the Pieces works to reduce or prevent the harms of alcohol and other drug use through education, intervention and advocacy.
Their primary goal is to reach out to the community and offer support, resources, and inform those who don't know anything about what is really going on in the streets. It is also a place where people can connect with one another and share their experiences.
They do all of this through public education, advocacy, and working directly with folks on the street. They have a recovery helpline as well.

Memory Blankets/Quilts-
We are working on constructing memory blankets/quilts for parents who have lost children to drug overdoses.
The parents will fill out a brief questionnaire to send to each sewist giving you some information on the person who passed away. You will also be receiving an article of clothing that belonged to them to incorporate into the quilt.
This project is not for "quilters" only this is a craft project. Picking Up The Pieces understands that not all of our crafters are experienced quilters, but that we are all able to craft beautiful, well constructed items by following Kathy Wargo's guidelines providing a blanket/quilt that will be beautifully constructed and provide a meaningful memory to the parent.
Only those who attend the memory quilt class on August 1st, OR can provide previous memory quilting samples OR can meet 1:1 with Kathy Wargo will be allowed to participate. You will be sent a clothing item of the person who passed away to incorporate into the quilt/blanket and we need to review guidelines for that.
If you would like to participate in this project, please email Crafting Change Executive Director Tiffany Herbert tiffany@craftingchange.org.
