The mission of Sicangu Child and Family Services is to preserve, protect and strengthen the children and families of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. To provide culturally appropriate and sensitive services to children that meet family needs. To provide services through an efficient and effective service system that will enable families to work within their own Tiospaye to ensure the safety and well-being of their children. To place children who are removed from their parents with relatives when appropriate or with a tribally licensed home. To protect the bond between the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and its children and culture by promoting the security and stability of children and families.

 project must-knows

Sicangu Child and Family Services serves 45 children at any one time. They currently have a few children under 5 and a few children over 15, but the majority of kids are between the ages of 5-14.  Children are coming and going throughout the year and the age mix is relatively stable. They have a few kids in residential treatment as well. We've been asked to help with several items to help the kids in their care.

1) Taco Totes- Our Crafting Change Taco Tote is perfect for a Welcome Bag to place all kinds of personal hygiene items in for the kids as they enter foster care. These bags are designed for kids of all ages and are the ideal size tote bag. They are easy to make and can be customized for kids of all ages utilizing fun fabrics. Please use fabrics for kids of all ages 5-14. Kids love licensed prints like superheroes, characters based on books and movies, Disney. Familiar characters bring comfort. Please see our project overview sheet for fabrics to avoid when crafting for our Tribal partners. While there are many bag patterns out there, our partner specifically requested this one.

2) Burrito Pillowcases - Each child will receive a pillowcase in their Welcome Bag. Please use fabrics for kids of all ages 5-14. Kids love licensed prints like superheroes, characters based on books and movies, Disney. Familiar characters bring comfort. Please see our project overview sheet for fabrics to avoid when crafting for our Tribal partners.

3) Rag Quilts - They need 5 rag quilts for children in their inpatient facility to snuggle up with and feel safe and comfortable. They have requested rag quilts only as it is cold in SD and these are warm and snuggly!
