For 2 of their programs, The Independent Supported Living Program (up to a 6 Month stay) and the Mobile Housing Navigation Center (up to a 120 Day stay), the young adults have the opportunity to stay for longer periods of time and settle down while they look for permanent housing, educational opportunity and jobs. We will be helping the young adults in these 2 programs with blankets and pillowcases to make them feel more at home during this transition. CRITICAL INFORMATION: We have been asked to not use "Pride" themed fabric or fabric that in anyway would identify the owner of the items as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. It is important to remember that these young adults are in a very vulnerable situation often having been displaced from their home due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. Pillowcases: Pattern: Use the Burrito Pillowcase pattern for sewing. This pattern creates a clean and professional finish. Fabric: You may use either cotton or flannel fabric for the pillowcases. These fabrics are durable and comfortable. Fabric Restrictions: Please avoid using fabrics that depict weapons, drugs, alcohol, or themes related to pride, rainbows, or any fabric/symbols that could "out" someone as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Quality: Ensure that stitches are secure and seams are finished neatly for durability. Blankets/Quilts/Lapghans: Accepted Techniques: blankets can be sewn, knitted, or crocheted. The ideal size for blankets is 45 inches by 60 inches (114 cm by 152 cm), which provides comfort and practicality for recipients. Fabric and Yarn: Use high-quality yarns and fabrics that are cozy and durable. Please refer to our master yarn list for suggestions on suitable yarns for blankets. Avoid using yarns or fabrics in colors of the rainbow. Please don't make blankets overly scrappy. Fabric and Yarn Restrictions: Avoid using fabrics that depict weapons, drugs, alcohol, or themes related to pride, rainbows, or any symbols that could "out" someone as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Quality: Ensure your blankets are well-crafted with secure stitches or seams, reflecting the care and dedication of our volunteers. Twin Size Quilts They are looking for approximately 12 Twin Size Quilts per year. If you have any interest in constructing some truly lovely, warm, twin size quilts that residents of their Independent Supported Living Program could come home to, they would love that. Size: 70"x90" Fabric Restrictions: Avoid using fabrics that depict weapons, drugs, alcohol, or themes related to pride, rainbows, or any symbols that could "out" someone as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Fabric: Cotton & Batting Technique: Sewn Only ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Delivery Start Date: October 1, 2024 for Winter Items Feel free to begin preparing for the upcoming winter season. If you would like to help unsheltered LGBTQIA+ young adults in Nashville, please follow these guidelines: Accepted Items: We are looking for hats, cowls, scarves, gloves, mittens, and fingerless gloves. Technique: Sewn, knitted, or crocheted. Color Preferences: Use subdued colors such as browns, blacks, navy blue, forest greens, etc. These colors help the young adults blend into their surroundings and feel safe. Fabric and Yarn Restrictions: Avoid using colors of the rainbow or Pride-inspired patterns. The young adults served by Nashville Launch Pad often come from difficult backgrounds where their gender identity or sexual orientation was not accepted. It’s important that the items do not make them stand out. Quality: Ensure your items are well-crafted and durable, providing warmth and comfort throughout the winter months. Individuals with Alzheimer's, dementia, or aging often show anxiety or agitation through their hands, fidgeting with clothes, blankets, wounds, or IVs. Fiddle mats provide different textures and activities—such as things to open, push, or slide—to help soothe this fidgeting and restore calm. Crafting Guidelines: Approved Squares: Use squares from our approved library only. Balance: Ensure your mat has a balance of elements from each category: Functional, Sensory, and Auditory. Volunteers ship their donations for The Yonkofa Project to Crafting Change HQ where we assemble them into kits or get the bandages inspected or the baby items ready to go prior to shipping to them to load into cargo containers for the long journey to Ghana. When they arrive here we put menstrual kit items together with donated underwear into kits with instructions. Bandages and Baby items are sorted into waterproof bags for safe shipping. (Please do not ship these directly to The Yonkofa Project in GA, if you do, they end up having to pay shipping to get them to us. ) T here is no rush to get items to us for The Yonkofa Project so we ask that packages are only shipped the 1st of the month. This is an ongoing project and items are always needed. Cargo containers go to Ghana on a rolling basis. Work until your box is full and ship to us on the first of the month so we can arrange help for receiving packages, sorting items and putting together kits. Planned Parenthood empowers individuals and families in the communities they serve to make informed choices regarding their health and wellness. They see a future where all people have equitable opportunity to experience health and wellness including high-quality sexual and reproductive health care provided with respect and without judgement. what are we crafting? Item Requested Craft Type Quantity Requested Quantity Still Needed Heart Hugs Sew 500 500 Heating Pads Sew 500 500 Bags (Adults) Sew 500 500 project must-knows We have been asked to help Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains with several items in assistance of patient care. First, we were asked if there is a reusable solution for patient care bags that would offer some happiness, dignity and discretion for patients leaving clinic with medication and materials and resources after medical appointments. Second, The Pocket Heart Hugs will be added to their resource pack given to patients with after their appointments. Prior to distribution, our laminated poem will be added to the Heart Hug by Martha. Third, patients are advised to use a heating pad after certain appointments to help with cramping. Many patients can't afford this. However a rice heating pad made out of flannel holds it's heat for up to an hour! 1) Tote Bags- Any pattern, any style. Preferred Pattern: The Crafting Change Easy Tote, Green Bag Lady, Crafting Change Taco Tote or Earth Day Jean Tote. Lined or unlined. Quilting Cotton, cotton/poly blends, Lightweight Canvas or denim (no upholstery fabric for this partner please). Sized between 16"x16" and 18"x18" Bright and cheerful fabrics like Superheroes, Florals, batiks in bright colors or denim jeans totes. Fabrics to Avoid: Pastels. Baby Prints Fabrics with words like mommy/daddy/family Drugs/Alcohol/Bad Words/Inappropriate Images 2) Pocket Heart Hugs - Bright and cheerful Heart Hugs bring comfort. Same fabric restrictions as the tote bags. You can see our video below on how to construct them or follow any pattern you find for "pocket prayer quilts" however we are only using hearts, no religious emblems allowed. Carol Grape and Deb Evans found a fun new way to do these with pinking shears, and we've now added a video for this to our patterns! 3) Rice Bag Heating Pads - These small flannel heating pads are super fast and easy to sew up. Our team on the ground in Colorado will fill them up with rice and sew them closed, so all you have to do is create the empty shells following our super easy pattern and video tutorial created by Carol Grape carol@craftingchange.org Please remember to use COTTON THREAD! These will go inside the patient totes we are crafting along with the heart hugs and given to patients to offer them additional comfort to help alleviate cramping and pain. As the patients served in this region are primarily low-income PPRM often has to provide financial assistance to patients to purchase heating pads however their funds are low due to increase requests to cover travel expenses of patients. This little item will go a long way to help. Rice is being provided by volunteers in Colorado. Please remember the following when selecting fabric: Fabrics to Avoid: Pastels. One key reason is that people cannot use government subsidies, such as food stamps, to purchase them. When it comes to deciding on whether to eat vs. buy soap and shampoo, the choice becomes obvious. So, S.A.CK. was created to help fill this need. In September of 2017, S.A.C.K. (Supporting A Community with Kindness), was started as a grassroots effort to connect people from all over the world while crocheting/knitting soap sacks and then donating them (with a bar of soap in each one) to homeless shelters, food pantries, veteran clinics, relief efforts and social service agencies. what are we crafting? Item Requested Craft Type Quantity Requested Quantity Still Needed Soap Sacks ALL 500 0 project must-knows Crafting Change loves to make soap sacks and distribute them to our partner charities throughout the country. Often times we meet their needs really quickly. S.A.C.K and Crafting Change both encourage our volunteers who love making soap sacks to look within their local communities to see who may need them before sending them in to S.A.C.K. Please check out these two great resources here. Keep in mind when donating locally, you should include soap with your sack. Directory of Food Pantries: https://www.foodpantries.org/ Directory of Homeless Shelters: https://www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/ Directory of Little Free Pantries: http://mapping.littlefreepantry.org/ If you do not have anyone local to donate your soap sacks to, Stacy encourages you to look at our partner charities first and if their needs are met, you may ship them to S.A.C.K directly in NJ so Founder, Stacy Wiener can distribute them to organizations that have made requests directly to her. She is always happy to accept empty soap sacks and add soap to them prior to shipment! However, she gladly accepts soap too! While you are not required to attach the tag to your soap sack, it is a nice gesture to do this as it saves the charity time. You will find a link to the soap sack labels in the pattern section.
