Crafting Change HQ for   Community Partners

Anchor 1
About

Crafting Change is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and collects many items at it's headquarters in Eugene. Why are we collecting items?

  • We are often contacted by organizations who need small, one-time donations

  • We are able to boost our existing partners with emergency requests.

  • We support many local Eugene organizations like the U of O Student Food Pantry, Solidarity Share Fair, The Eugene Mission, Eugene Pride and other small local outreach efforts that need occasional assistance. It is important to help other local nonprofits where we are headquartered to build our sense of community and volunteer outreach efforts.

  • We also take your winter items during spring and summer and will store them until they are needed and donate them our partners as soon as winter begins.

 project must-knows

We are only taking soap sacks and dish cloths with 100% cotton yarn NO BLENDS The tags we put on our items tells recipients that the items can go in their compost when they are no longer useful, therefore they must be 100% cotton. (It's an Oregon thing!)

If your items are blends please look at our Impact page for who else is collecting this item.

Soap Sacks- knit and crochet only please ensure you follow a pattern so the final product ends up big enough, we have been receiving many that are just really too small( We deliver sacks with the soap in the box. ) A soap sack is meant for the user to put their hand in the sack with the soap. Your sack should be 4" wide and 6" tall.

Dish cloths- any style; we donate many to the U of O Student Food Pantry so if you have yellow/greeen yarn that is neat.

Backpacks-Adult size drawstring backpacks for those living on the streets. Making these with heavier fabrics like upholstery, outdoor fabric, waterproof canvas or denim is great for the rainy climate up here. But any from heavier fabrics will work well. We prefer not to have them from quilting cotton since these are for unsheltered people.

OTHER ITEMS:

We are also collecting the following hygiene items and if you have hotel size extras laying around your house! We would appreciate any help!

SOAP (the best deal on soap is 2 or 3 packs at The Dollar Tree. We are happy to purchase for you if you include a Dollar Tree gift card with your soap. This is a tax deductible donation!

toothpaste

toothbrushes

deodorant

first aid products/kits

feminine hygiene products.

+++mini sewing kits (Great ones at the dollar store or bulk on Amazon. You can create a homemade one by taking a Rx bottle, label removed, and put in the same items! This keeps it well protected from the elements. Include a few needles, a few buttons, a safety pin, regular thread, and some heavy duty thread is also appreciated because they often need to repair tents or sleeping bags!
