We have fulfilled all of their needs to date! We are currently awaiting the charity to update their needs list. project must-knows 1. Burrito Pillow Case- These are for all ages 5-18. All pillows are all the standard size pillow no matter the age you are making for. It is appreciated if fun fabrics are used, and kids love licensed prints like Marvel, Comic Book characters like Batman and Superman, Harry Potter, Disney. The pillowcase is made from three coordinating materials. The finished size should be 20”-21” wide by 30-32” long which fits a standard pillow. Please use soft, non scratchy material: woven quilter’s cotton, woven cotton blends as well as flannel. Fabric prints to avoid would be ones with drugs, alcohol, weapons religious, or holiday prints fabric with the words mommy, daddy or family or any variant (grandma, etc.) 2. Knit/Crochet Soap Sacks- Please ensure your soap sacks end up being the standard size of a soap sack 4"x6". When soap is distributed it has to be in it's original packaging which is often a box. Often soap sacks are too small. You can use a 4x6 index card as a handy guide to keep in your project bag. It is a good idea to check your pattern every once in awhile to ensure you are meeting the size guidelines. Thank you. • Project: The Remissionaries | Crafting Change

Crafting Change believes in a world where crafters feel inspired and empowered to make a difference in the world around them.  Our mission is to provide a collection of projects through trustworthy organizations. Together we will make high-quality items that bring joy, comfort, and support to those in need. Here you will find all of our supporting resources and patterns for our special projects. The Remissionaries 01 Read about our partner charity and see the items we are crafting 02 Read the Project Must-Knows 03 Pick a pattern from our approved or suggested pattern collection 04 Shipping address, print a care slip & tally your donation About The Remissionaries is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Las Vegas, NV. Founded by a breast cancer survivor/thriver, and aimed at helping women undergoing chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer. Providing a comfort crate at the beginning of or during treatment can help alleviate some common side effects of chemotherapy. A small gesture that can make a big impact in the life of a woman with breast cancer. what are we crafting? Item Requested Craft Type Quantity Requested Quantity Still Needed project must-knows Before you begin crafting, please read the Project Overview Sheet. There are lots of details for each item. Because you are crafting for patients going through cancer treatments, special care needs to be paid to the yarn you use, etc. Please ensure you have read ALL the details for the patterns and yarn choices before you begin! The Remissionaries Project Overview Sheet Updated 4/1/24: currently their only need is Lapghans: Lapghans (Knit/Crochet) for snuggling with during chemotherapy, no color restrictions, in fact The Remissionaries tells us they LOVE bright colors! Try for a finished size of 36” to 45” wide by 6 0 ” to 70” long. Any pattern is fine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Soft Cotton Beanies -(Knit/Crochet) These need to be made with soft cotton yarn or cotton/bamboo yarn for patients going through chemo treatments. Make sure the ‘cotton’ yarn you use is 100% cotton and please do not use any ‘craft’ yarn. Our partner has requested NO polyester, so check the label as some of these brands have a “cotton blend” that looks very similar to all cotton. Choose undyed, or pale-shade yarn, to minimize the amount of dye in the yarn that might be in contact with sensitive skin. As you look at hat beanie patterns, please bear in mind that ones with a lot of ‘texture’ can be irritating to sensitive skin so try to keep your pattern as smooth and bump-free as possible. Info sheet Tote Bags - Cute tote bags made from quilting cotton or lightweight canvas or tasteful denim are perfect for patients to carry items with them to chemotherapy appointments. Any pattern is ok. Pocket Prayer Quilts( Heart Hugs) - The Remissionaries would like all of the pocket quilts they receive to have hearts attached so they can go to anyone, no matter their religious preference. You can use buttons, charms, be creative just ensure they are securely fastened. We have a thoughtful Project Overview Sheet put together by Kathy Lawrence for this project, please review! You can attach the poem yourself by laminating it, or know that we will send them a stack of ready to attach poems if you aren't able. 4) Quilts - (Sewn) A snuggly blanket is always appreciated by those going through chemo. They have asked for quilted cotton type lapghans and not fleece. We recommend a lapghan designed in your choice of pattern with two layers of quilting cotton, batting or fleece in the middle and a binding. They can be machine quilted, or ‘sew as you go’ strip quilts. Aim for a finished size of 36”x48 to 45”x60" Port Pillows - (Sewn/Crochet)- This project is fast and easy. If you are sewing, The Remissionaries strongly prefers the Port Pillow with wings. . Port pillows really need to be stuffed FIRMLY to be effective. Please ensure you are really stuffing your port pillows nice and firm! Mini Tissue Holders - (Sewn/Crochet) This is a great scrap busting project! We have both crochet and sewn patterns available. Please ensure to check the seam allowance on the sewn pattern and to buy one pack of tissues to use at home to ensure your tissue holder fits a pack before you send it. Soft Scalp Washing Pads These are like a face scrubby, but need to be made from organic cotton worsted yarn, that stays soft for the sensitive scalps. Please choose un-dyed, or pale colors, so as to limit the amount of dye that may come in contact with sensitive skin. Rice Bag Heating Pads - These small flannel heating pads are super fast and easy to sew up. Christina will fill them up with rice and sew them closed, so all you have to do is create the empty shells following our super easy pattern and video tutorial created by Carol Grape carol@craftingchange.org Please remember to use COTTON THREAD and leave one entire short end open for filling with rice. Other Items they collect: Inside the comfort crates The Remissionaries distributes, they include many easy to find items! If you have extra room in your box, maybe you will consider including a few or check around your house to see if you have extras laying around! Fuzzy socks, puzzle books, lip balm, journals, small lotions, mini tissues, hand sanitizer, Ginger chews & cough drops, and reusable water bottles. One key reason is that people cannot use government subsidies, such as food stamps, to purchase them. When it comes to deciding on whether to eat vs. buy soap and shampoo, the choice becomes obvious. So, S.A.CK. was created to help fill this need. In September of 2017, S.A.C.K. (Supporting A Community with Kindness), was started as a grassroots effort to connect people from all over the world while crocheting/knitting soap sacks and then donating them (with a bar of soap in each one) to homeless shelters, food pantries, veteran clinics, relief efforts and social service agencies. what are we crafting? Item Requested Craft Type Quantity Requested Quantity Still Needed project must-knows Crafting Change loves to make soap sacks and distribute them to our partner charities throughout the country. Often times we meet their needs really quickly. S.A.C.K and Crafting Change both encourage our volunteers who love making soap sacks to look within their local communities to see who may need them before sending them in to S.A.C.K. Please check out these two great resources here. Keep in mind when donating locally, you should include soap with your sack. Directory of Food Pantries: https://www.foodpantries.org/ Directory of Homeless Shelters: https://www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/ Directory of Little Free Pantries: http://mapping.littlefreepantry.org/ If you do not have anyone local to donate your soap sacks to, Stacy encourages you to look at our partner charities first and if their needs are met, you may ship them to S.A.C.K directly in NJ so Founder, Stacy Wiener can distribute them to organizations that have made requests directly to her. She is always happy to accept empty soap sacks and add soap to them prior to shipment! However, she gladly accepts soap too! While you are not required to attach the tag to your soap sack, it is a nice gesture to do this as it saves the charity time. You will find a link to the soap sack labels in the pattern section. To ensure a shared understanding of expectations, we have developed the following policies and etiquette guidelines for our Zoom Rooms. Crafting Change Zoom Room Policies All volunteers of Crafting Change must adhere to the organization's Non-Discrimination Policy outlined below. The officers, directors, committee members, employees, and persons served by this corporation shall be selected entirely on a nondiscriminatory basis with respect to age, sex, race, religion, national origin, and sexual orientation or gender identity. It is the policy of Crafting Change not to discriminate on the basis of race, creed, ancestry, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical disability, veteran’s status, political service or affiliation, color, religion or national origin. To foster a positive and productive environment, the following additional policies apply to all Zoom Room participants: Crafting Commitment: Volunteers are required to use the Zoom Rooms as a time to craft for our charity partners. Our volunteer hosts dedicate their time and utilize organizational resources to facilitate these crafting sessions. By participating in Zoom Rooms, volunteers commit to supporting our organization's mission through their crafting efforts. This policy ensures that our collective efforts are focused on fulfilling our charitable goals and helping our partners. Respectful Communication: Discussions must remain respectful and avoid topics that may create conflict, such as politics, religion, or other controversial subjects. The Zoom Host will mute participants violating this policy and give a verbal warning. We care about your safety and insist that you wait until you are safely out of your vehicle or parked with the engine off before you join us to craft. By following these guidelines, we can create a harmonious and productive crafting space that makes everyone feel welcome. smoke-free crafting policy Safe Crafting & Healthy Giving~Smoke-Free Crafting Environment Policy We care about the health of everyone involved in Crafting Change! This policy ensures all donated items, regardless of the charity partner, are crafted in a completely smoke-free environment, free from: Cigarette smoke Cigar smoke Pipe smoke E-cigarettes All forms of vaping Marijuana smoke (including all smokable forms) This includes homes where smokers reside, even if they smoke "outside only." **For ease of this policy, we will use the term smoke/smokers to refer to any form of inhaling and either smoke or vapor. Why Smoke-Free? We prioritize the well-being of our most vulnerable recipients, including cancer patients, NICU babies, and children, but ultimately every person deserves the same healthy items. Secondhand smoke, vapor, and even lingering residue (third-hand smoke) can cause respiratory problems, allergies, and even cancer. There is no effective way to remove this residue from crafted items. What is Third-Hand Smoke (and Vape Residue)? Even if smoking or vaping happens outside, residue can settle on clothes, hair, furniture, and linger for weeks. This invisible residue, called third-hand smoke (for cigarettes and tobacco products) or third-hand vape residue (for e-cigarettes), contains harmful chemicals that can't be easily removed through laundry or airing out a space. It can re-emit into the air or be absorbed through the skin. Studies show laundering such items may not remove contamination and could even worsen it. Maintaining a Smoke-Free Crafting Environment To participate in our volunteer crafting program, we require all volunteers to create their handmade items in a smoke-free environment. This includes: Smoke-Free Residence: Not living with smokers in the same residence. This includes full and part-time residents of your space. Understanding and Alternatives We understand this requirement may not be feasible for all volunteers. We encourage open communication and are happy to discuss alternative ways to contribute, such as: Fundraising Events: Join us on our fundraising committee and help us raise vital funds to keep our programs going. Social Media & Community Outreach: Help spread the word about Crafting Change on social media platforms and in your local community. Email Campaigns : Contribute your writing skills by helping us craft compelling email messages to our supporters. By maintaining a smoke-free crafting environment, we ensure the safety and comfort of everyone who interacts with our handmade items. • Our Story | Crafting Change

Crafting Change believes in a world where crafters feel inspired and empowered to make a difference in the world around them.  Our mission is to provide a collection of projects through trustworthy organizations. Together we will make high-quality items that bring joy, comfort, and support to those in need. Our Story The 1st mask I ever made was for my daughter to wear to work after she got Covid in late March 2020. My daughter, Mackenzie, at work, masked up! My husband, Kent, is a doctor that works in rural Emergency Rooms throughout Iowa. I kept him and his nursing staff in masks and scrub caps. A Note From Our Founder Tiffany Herbert I never fully appreciated the value of my ability to sew until a global pandemic hit. Now, I know it’s a superpower. It can save lives. I never fully appreciated the power of tens of thousands of us with sewing machines, crochet hooks, computers, and Facebook accounts either. Together, we are strong. We are amazing. And we are crafting change before my very eyes every single day. I started sewing to help protect the frontline workers in my life: my daughter and my husband. I kept sewing and volunteering for organizations like GetPPE and Million Mask Challenge because I saw the difference we could make. In January 2021, I was honored to host a National Virtual Sew-A-Thon for the National Day of Service, organized by the Presidential Inaugural Committee. This event brought over 300 people together from across the United States and Canada. Together, we sewed more than 17,000 masks for pandemic relief. During our giant Zoom room, I kept hearing the same question: "What are we going to do next?" That question got me thinking... We are now mobilized. And that is a powerful thing. The urgency of the pandemic has subsided, but it revealed the vast inequities in how resources are distributed in our country. Far too many people lack access to basic items: warm hats, blankets, reusable menstrual pads, and — perhaps most importantly — someone who cares. Many nonprofit organizations work tirelessly to provide for those who don’t know where to turn. They need our help. Children need warm hats to stay healthy and attend school. Girls need menstrual pads to participate fully in their education. These are needs we can meet because we can craft these items. It is my sincere hope that you feel as empowered as I do. Together, we can craft the change we want to see in our communities and beyond. Crafting Change is about so much more than the items we create. It’s about building a community that cares. It’s about crafting change in our own lives as we come together to make a difference. When I think back to that first National Day of Service event, I remember looking into the eyes of some of the most heroic volunteers I’ve ever met. You sacrificed so much during 2020 and 2021. I knew then that I wanted to continue organizing in ways that make it easy for you to volunteer and create a meaningful impact for those in need. Crafting Change is built to do just that — for today, tomorrow, and far into the future. 💜 We remain an all volunteer organization with outstanding volunteer Craftivists and Leadership.
