Bags Into Beds

Michael Montondon, Founder of Bags Into Beds, is on a mission to get single use plastic out of the landfills and natural areas as well as provide comfort for those experiencing homelessness. He's found a way to do both. He makes pillows and beds out of these plastics. Crafting Change has agreed to partner with Bags Into Beds by helping to sew the pillow shells that they will stuff! The plastic becomes downy soft and makes a great pillow.

This project is complete! If you have works in progress, please ship, however Michael would like us to focus our attention on other projects at this time and will get in contact with us in the future if he needs our help again! Thanks everyone for your help with this project!
We've partnered with Michael to create an easy to follow set of instructions with pictures. Michael also joined us for a special recorded Zoom Room to talk about his project and show us his process.
If you choose this project you will be sewing pillow covers and shipping him empty covers ready to stuff and then he will stuff them, sew them closed and distribute to homeless shelters across Los Angeles, CA. By participating in this project you will be saving the planet and helping unsheltered humans throughout the Los Angeles area. Win. Win!

Please follow the provided pattern for the pillow covers. Michael sent us these instructions personally and they are what works. Do not deviate or improvise. If we do not follow the instructions the pillows will not fit into a pillowcase. If you have questions about this project, feel free to message Tiffany tiffany@craftingchange.org.

It is a very easy project great for beginning sewists and fun to do with families to show the impact you can have as a sewist at home and the impact you can have on the environment too. Follow Bags Into Beds on Instagram for more great info on what they do, and perhaps see your pillows in action!
