How we are helping:
1) Pandemic Relief Masks - They primarily need Adult masks for their inpatients. Any pattern of mask is accepted (Olson, Craft Passion, Deaconess, SSOL, Batwing, etc.) as long as it meets the following requirements:
NO nose wires for patient safety
Elastic ear loops ONLY, They can not accept masks with ties for patient safety
3 layer masks are the preferred masks, see below
They have a strong preference for 3 layer masks. These can be 3 layers of cotton or 2 layers of cotton and one layer of non-woven polypropylene. With the population they work with keeping filters in is impractical. However, they will accept filter pocket masks. Please consider adding a 3rd layer of non-woven polypropylene or a 3rd layer of cotton instead of making a filter pocket for this location.
They primarily need adult masks. They need a small supply of masks for tweens/teens that meet these same requirements.
2) Blankets - We are helping them create blankets for the children's inpatient unit of their facility. These blankets will comfort the children while they are dealing with their mental health issues and away from their families. Please read our Project Overview Sheet for the important information on the requirements for the blankets they want.
3) Burrito Pillowcases - We are creating pillowcases for the children in the inpatient unit of their facility. These pillowcases will primarily be for kids ages 11 and up. Many of the patients that come through are in the foster care system and they will be allowed to keep the pillowcases that they use while patients. These pillowcases will provide comfort to children going through a difficult time. Please read our Project Overview Sheet prior to constructing any pillowcases for MHRC so you know what fabrics and themes we are looking for. We ask that you pay special attention to this project overview sheet and not just use plain fabric.
4) Winter Items- MHRC has a strong homeless outreach program. They are beginning to prepare for their winter program now. They are collecting winter items such as hats, mittens, gloves, fingerless gloves, and ear warmers. These can be sewn, knit or crochet. We have many suggested patterns. These patterns are just to give you ideas of what they are looking for. You are free to use any pattern you like. There are no color restrictions for this project, however remember that these are going to homeless persons who do not have access to regular washing of items. Lighter colors will show dirt more. Please look at our Approved Master Yarn list for our tested yarns that will hold up well for this project.
